How to Take Screenshot on Any Windows 10 Computer?

There are several ways to take a screenshot in Windows 10.

Windows 10 provides several ways to take screenshots of your computer screen in its entirety or to select certain parts of it.

The easiest way to take a screenshot in Windows 10 is by pressing the “PrtScn” button on your keyboard. There are different key pairs to take screenshots of any part of the screen.

Microsoft also provides Snipping Tool to take custom screenshots and create various textures on images.

You can take screenshots in games by opening the Game Bar with the Windows + G keyboard shortcut.

If you need to capture a screenshot of something on your computer screen, Windows 10 offers many more ways to do it.

Do you want to save the whole screen or just a part of it? Here I will explain all common techniques to take Windows 10 screenshot.

How to take screenshot in Windows 10 with PrtScn key?

A simple way to copy and save anything on your computer screen is to press the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard. It is usually labeled “PrtScn” and is located between or near the Function keys on the top row.

On some keyboards (especially laptops) you may need to trigger the Print Screen using the Function key. In other words, hold the Function key and then press the PrtScn key.

The PrtScn key copies the entire screen to the clipboard. So you can paste it elsewhere. But you can use several modifier keys to change the way this key works.

Windows has several PrtScn variations:

Press the PrtScn key. This will copy the entire screen to the clipboard. You can paste the screenshot into any program that displays images, such as Paint or Microsoft Word.

Press Alt + PrtScn. This copies the active window to the clipboard. You can paste it into another program.

Press Windows key + Shift + S. The screen dims and the mouse pointer changes. You can drag to select a part of the screen to capture. The screenshot is copied to the clipboard and you can paste it into another program. (This shortcut only works if you have installed the latest version of Windows 10, called the Windows 10 Creators Update.)

Press Windows key + PrtScn. It saves the entire screen as an image file. You can find it in the “Pictures” folder, in a subfolder called “Screenshots“.

How to take screenshot in Windows 10 with Snipping Tool?

Microsoft includes a very flexible screenshot utility called Snipping Tool with Windows 10. You can use the Snipping Tool to grab a screenshot and save it as an image file without first pasting the screenshot into another program.

1. Launch the Snipping Tool from the Start menu.

2. In the “Mode” drop down, choose the type of screenshot you want. You can choose a free-form shape or anything from full screen to rectangular.

3. If you click New, your computer screen will freeze. Then you can make a screenshot using the mouse. Then a screenshot will appear in the Snipping Tool window.

4. If you want to add something like a tooltip that only appears after mouse movement, you can specify how long to wait before taking a screenshot using the Delay menu.

5. If you want, once your screenshot is taken, you can use drawing tools to annotate the screenshot.

6. When you’re done, click “File” and then “Save As” to save the completed screenshot to your computer.

7. You can also click the copy button in the Snipping Tool window. Copying the image to your clipboard looks like two pages on top of each other.

How to take screenshot in Windows 10 with Game Bar?

The Game Bar is an overlay you can use in most Windows games to take screenshots and record video. Here’s how to use it:

1. Start the game from Start menu or Xbox Console Companion program.

2. While playing the game, press Windows key + G and the Game Bar overlay will appear. The Game Bar has a screenshot tool that appears as an overlay over games.

3. Click the camera icon to take a screenshot, or you can use the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + Alt + PrtScn.

The screenshot is automatically saved to the “Videos” folder in a subfolder called “Captures“.

If you are playing the game on Steam, you can also press F11 to take screenshots. It will be added to your screenshots folder in Steam.
