It’s time to finally get rid of that embarrassing email address you made a decade ago.
Is it time to delete your Gmail account? If you want a different email service or just want to finally get rid of that embarrassing username you created years ago, it’s easy to move on from your account.
Deleting a Gmail account is permanent. After going through the process, all your emails and account settings will be deleted. You will no longer be able to use your Gmail address to send or receive emails, and the address will not be made available for anyone else to use in the future.
However, deleting a Gmail account does not delete the entire Google account that the email address is associated with. You’ll still have access to all other Google Account services like Google Drive, your calendar, Google Play and more. Gmail will ask you to provide an alternate email address to sign in to a Google Account in the future.
How to delete Gmail account?
• 1. Sign in to your Gmail account on Google.com
• 2. Click the grid icon in the upper right corner and select “Account”.
• 3. On the left side, select the “Data and Privacy” menu.
• 4. Scroll to “Data from apps and services you use”.
• 5. Under “Download or delete your data”, click Delete Google service. (You may need to sign in.)
• 6. Next to “Gmail”, click “Delete”.
• 7. Enter an alternate email address (cannot be another Gmail address).
Make sure you use an email address you have access to; You need this to proceed with deleting your account.
• 8. Click “Send Verification Email”.
• 9. Open the email from Google that you should have received with your alternate email.
• 10. Follow the delete link in the message.
• 11. If prompted, log in to the Gmail account you want to delete.
• 12. “Yes, I want to delete (example)@gmail.com.”
• 13. Click “Delete Gmail”. Then, click “Done”.
According to Google Account Help, “If you use Gmail through your work, school, or other groups, contact your administrator.” Only an account administrator can delete a Gmail account.
Google does not specify how long it will wait to delete your information after making your request. If you change your mind, you can recover your Gmail address and emails.
If you want to delete your entire Google Account instead of your email address, there are other steps you need to follow.
How to delete Google account?
• 1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
• 2. Scroll to “Your data and privacy options”.
• 3. Select “More options” and then “Delete your Google Account.”
Deleting an entire Google Account means that content in your Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Photos accounts will be lost, and you will no longer have access to YouTube or Google Play subscriptions purchased with that account (apps, movies, games, music, and TV shows). If the Google Chrome browser is synced with a deleted Google Account, the browser’s information, including bookmarks, will also be deleted.
