How to Automatically Delete Emails and Keep Your Mail Inbox Clean?

Have you ever wondered if some unwanted emails can be deleted automatically? If the answer to this question is yes, then you have come to the right place. There are many people who have undeleted emails for years, filling up the free storage space provided by Google.

Google search giant offers only 15GB in total. This applies to all Google accounts including Gmail, Drive, Photos and more. Now, you might argue that Gmail doesn’t take up much space. Also, this is not a true opinion. I had about 12,000 emails and my account used 6GB of storage. Half of these emails are useless. The remaining storage space is occupied by Google Photos and Drive apps.

Once the free cloud storage space is full, users will have to pay Rs 1,100 per year for 100GB. Those who don’t want to spend money on this will have to delete some of their existing data to make room for the many photos, emails and files to come. It’s good, there are ways to easily delete unwanted photos and videos too. But here we will learn how your Gmail can automatically delete emails that you don’t want to keep.

Gmail has a feature called filters for cases where auto-deletion is required. It’s easy to access and really does what you want it to do. Continue reading to know more about it.

How to delete emails automatically?

Step 1: Open Gmail on your PC or laptop.

Step 2: In the search bar, you may have noticed the filters icon. Tap on it.

Note: If you don’t see the icon, you can also find it in the settings section > Filters and blocked addresses” tab. After this, you need to tap on the “Create a new filter” button.

Step 3: You will notice “From” written above. Enter a name or email address for non-important emails. For example, if you don’t want emails from services like Zomato, Swiggy, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, you can enter their email id.

Note: It is always better to enter email id than just name. Because if any of your emails have the same name, then Gmail can delete it. If you want Gmail to delete emails from a specific sender, then enter the full email id.

Step 4: Once you have done this, click on Create filter and then select “Delete it“.

Step 5: After this, you need to click on Create filter again. You are now set.

This feature will not delete all your old emails. Instead, it should be noted that it is for upcoming emails. Once you create a filter, your Gmail will automatically delete it. You can always delete the filters you’ve created. For this, go to settings > Filters and blocked addresses. Here you will be able to create edit or delete filters. This method will ensure that your Gmail is clean.
